Batumi
Where Europe Meets Asia
Standing on the shores of the Black Sea in Batumi, I found myself in one of the most fascinating corners of the Caucasus. Just a short drive from the Turkish border, Batumi has long been a crossroads of cultures, trade, and empires. Looking across the vast Black Sea, it was remarkable to think that beyond those waters lay Europe, while behind me stretched the mountains linking Asia. With its palm-lined boulevard, modern skyline, historic old town, and refreshing sea breeze, Batumi felt like a city where continents, histories, and civilizations quietly come together.

WALKING PARADISE - BATUMI BOULEVARD
Walking along the beautiful Batumi Boulevard in Batumi was one of the most relaxing parts of our journey through Georgia. Stretching along the Black Sea coast, the promenade comes alive with palm trees, cycling tracks, modern sculptures, music, cafés, and cool sea breeze. As the sun slowly set over the water, families, tourists, and locals filled the boulevard, creating a lively yet peaceful atmosphere. We loved simply strolling along the waterfront, soaking in the energy of the city and enjoying the refreshing contrast between Batumi’s modern skyline and the calm beauty of the sea.

BATUMI LINKING SILK ROUTE OF ASIA AND EUROPE
Located on the Black Sea, Batumi has long been an important stop on the ancient Silk Route, linking Europe and Asia through trade and travel. The city still reflects this mix of cultures in its architecture, food, and lively seaside atmosphere. Its modern promenade and historic trade connections made it a memorable part of our Silk Route journey through Georgia.

Batumi Botanical Garden along the coastline of Batumi on the Black Sea.
The Batumi Botanical Garden, located along the coastline of Batumi on the Black Sea, was one of the most refreshing yet slightly tiring experiences of our journey through Georgia. Spread across lush green slopes, the garden requires quite a bit of walking and gentle climbing, which can be a little exhausting at times. However, every effort is rewarded with beautiful views, peaceful trails, and a stunning variety of plants from around the world.

Indian Merchants on the Silk Route
Indian merchants were among the most important traders on the Silk Route, linking the Indian subcontinent with Central Asia, Persia, China, and the Mediterranean. Their caravans travelled from cities such as Taxila, Mathura, and Varanasi through the Hindu Kush to Bactria, Samarkand, and Persia, while another route crossed Ladakh to Kashgar, Khotan, and Chang'an (modern Xi'an). They traded cotton textiles, spices, indigo, gemstones, ivory, and sandalwood, returning with horses, silk, gold, silver, and fine ceramics. Beyond commerce, they also carried Buddhism, art, languages, and knowledge across Asia, helping shape one of history's greatest trade networks.

FINAL MOMENT OF THE GREAT SILK ROAD & CAUCASUS ODYSSEY.....EUROPE ON THE OTHER SIDE OF BLACK SEA

Sitting quietly on the beach of the Black Sea in Batumi, we found ourselves at the end of an unforgettable Silk Route journey. With the waves gently rolling in and Europe lying just across the horizon, it felt like a perfect moment of reflection and gratitude. Over the course of this journey, we had travelled through four remarkable countries, each offering its own stories, landscapes, and experiences.
As we watched the sea and let the memories settle in, there was a deep sense of fulfilment and joy. This journey was not just about places, but about moments, people, flavours, and emotions collected along the way. We hope you enjoyed travelling with us through these pages as much as we enjoyed living every part of it.
