Lake Sevan: Jewel of Armenia

Lake Sevan
Lake Sevan, often called the “Jewel of Armenia,” was one of the most peaceful and visually stunning places we visited during our journey. Surrounded by dramatic mountain landscapes and located at an altitude of nearly 1,900 meters, the vast blue waters create an atmosphere that feels both serene and majestic. The cool mountain air, changing light on the lake, and endless open views make the experience deeply calming and unforgettable.

Lake Sevan – Where Armenia's Soul Reflects in Blue
As we stood overlooking the vast blue waters of Lake Sevan, the peaceful setting was made even more special by the historic Sevanavank Monastery perched on the hill above. Founded in the 9th century, this ancient monastery has watched over the lake for more than a thousand years. The combination of sparkling water, rugged mountains, and centuries-old stone churches created a scene that was both calming and unforgettable.

Lake Sevan: Echoes of the Ancient Silk Road
Surrounded by mountains and vast blue waters, the lake lies close to ancient Silk Route corridors that once connected Persia, Central Asia, Anatolia, and Europe, carrying traders, pilgrims, silk, spices, carpets, and ideas across the Caucasus. Standing beside the lake and visiting Sevanavank Monastery overlooking the water, it was easy to imagine centuries of travellers pausing here for rest and reflection. The entire setting felt peaceful, timeless, and deeply connected to the cultural memory of the Silk Road.
